Pacific Life Announces Officer Promotions
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – April 1, 2019 – Pacific Life announced today the following officer promotions, effective immediately.
Josh Scott to Senior Vice President, Finance and Risk Management, Life Insurance Division
A resident of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Mr. Scott joined Pacific Life in 2012 as vice president of Financial Planning & Analysis. In his role as senior vice president, Mr. Scott is responsible for developing financial strategies to support the division’s growth objectives, and oversees the finance, reinsurance, valuation, asset liability management, risk management, and compliance areas. His promotion recognizes the impact of his leadership role in setting the direction and managing these key functions in the division. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from California State University, Fullerton.
Ernest Armijos to Assistant Vice President, Product Governance, Life Insurance Division
Mr. Armijos began his career with Pacific Life in 2012 as an actuarial consultant. Now, as assistant vice president, he will assume an expanded leadership role and drive all aspects of product governance while leading research activities to prepare the division for upcoming regulatory changes and company-driven risk governance initiatives. Mr. Armijos resides in Orange County, Calif., and holds a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from the University of Toronto.
Lance Doherty to Assistant Vice President, Treasury, Corporate Division
As assistant vice president, Mr. Doherty is responsible for leading the cash management team and providing oversight to the cash management function, including securities lending and supporting liquidity, capital and reserve requirements. In his new role, he will also increase his involvement in short-term investing and financing in support of Pacific Life and Pacific Life Re’s financial needs. Residing in La Palma, Calif., Mr. Doherty joined Pacific Life in 2006 as director of securities lending and holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business management from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
Terri Foster to Assistant Vice President, Market & Portfolio Risk Management, Retirement Solutions Division
Ms. Foster joined Pacific Life in 2012 as a senior actuarial staff analyst and was promoted several times before assuming the role of director, Market & Portfolio Risk Management, in 2016 where she was responsible for the variable annuity hedging operations, hedge strategy development, and associated fund mapping processes. As assistant vice president, her responsibilities have expanded in managing the current hedge program and adjoining processes, and the development and execution of new hedging strategies in response to accounting and regulatory changes. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Texas A&M University and resides in Aliso Viejo, Calif.
Kara Moors to Assistant Vice President, HR Systems Payroll and Analytics, Corporate Division
A resident of Irvine, Calif., Ms. Moors joined Pacific Life in 2014 as director of HR Project Management and Analytics. She assumed oversight of all HR systems in 2016, payroll in 2017, and the company’s HR customer service area in 2018. Her promotion to assistant vice president recognizes her expanded responsibilities in these areas. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario and a master’s degree in business from the University of Ottawa.
Jacob Smith to Assistant Vice President, Internal Audit, Corporate Division
As assistant vice president, Mr. Smith is responsible for developing strategic initiatives that align with company strategy and optimize the internal audit function to provide value in risk oversight activities. He also oversees the global professional practices and strategy for the internal audit function. Having joined Pacific Life in 2014 as an internal audit consultant, he was promoted to director of professional practices in 2016. He resides in Laguna Hills, Calif., and holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree in business from the University of California, Berkeley.
Shaowei Yang to Assistant Vice President, Market & Portfolio Risk Management, Retirement Solutions Division
Mr. Yang began his career with Pacific Life in 2013 as a director, actuary for Variable Annuity GAAP Valuation. He moved into the Risk Management department in 2015 to lead the Risk Reporting and Analytics team. As assistant vice president, he will continue to lead the variable annuities liability strategies team and oversee managing the impact of accounting changes on actuarial processes and methodologies across the enterprise. A resident of Irvine, Calif., he holds a master’s degree in actuarial science from the University of Iowa.
Sim Zady to Assistant Vice President, Product Design, Life Insurance Division
A resident of Newport Beach, Calif., Mr. Zady joined Pacific Life in 2016 as director and actuary where he was responsible for leading the product development activities for the high net worth market, including managing the product design team. His promotion to assistant vice president recognizes the impact of his leadership role in setting the direction and managing this key function within the division. He holds a master’s degree in statistics from the University of Southern Maine.
